Félix Meyer runs this 12ha domaine, situated almost opposite Jean-Marc Bernhard, which has vineyards in the Grand Cru Wineck-Schlossberg and also in various lieux-dits dotted around Katzenthal. Meyer’s wines are made with minimal residual sugar (with the obvious exception of late harvest and botrytized wines), dry yet full of fruit. “My Rieslings are all dry – that’s they way they should be!” he stresses. The new tasting room is undeniably more convenient, though there was something very appealing about tastings of old which were conducted in the cellar, accompanied (in November at any rate) by a wonderful symphony of bubblings and burpings from the busily fermenting foudres.
