The formidable Faller female dynasty of Colette, Catherine and Laurence owns this beautiful, walled property just outside Kaysersberg, where they make a range of concentrated, voluptuous, finely aromatic wines, often (even non-Vendange Tardive or Séléction de Grains Nobles wines) a little botrytized.. Tastings here are a rare treat, conducted in the beautiful wood-panelled front room of the property, with fading sepia photographs of Théo Faller (late husband of Colette and father of Catherine and Laurence, and a giant on the Alsace wine stage), or in the kitchen around the huge oak refectory table. The domaine, which recently converted to biodynamics, is quite large – 27 hectares –a third of which are in the superb Grand Cru Schlossberg, visible from the kitchen window, famous for racy Rieslings, and the rest in nearby Grands Crus Furstentum and Mambourg. From the keenly priced Pinot Blanc right up to the rare Quintessence de Grains Nobles, these are wines to treasure.
