One of the few families to have done the impossible and really, truly break through the appellation barrier. The Despagnes’ wines are sought after and highly priced, particularly their red Girolate, which has beaten some of Bordeaux’s most illustrious names during numerous blind tastings. Château Tour de Mirambeau may be a lowly Entre-Deux-Mers white, but it is excellent quality and a good way to discover the range, along with the painstakingly thorough methods of vinification. The Despagne family also own another property, Château Mont Pérat in Capian, whose wine has become sought after in Asia after being featured in the Drop of the Gods manga in Japan.

Useful information: Free visit in the vineyards and the cellars of both châteaux plus a tasting. Groups: maximum six people. English and Japanese spoken. Can buy wines direct. All visits by appointment only, from Monday to Friday 09.00-18.00. Weekends possible, by appointment.
