Do try and visit the châteaux in this Bordeaux region when they throw open the doors of their cellars on various weekends during the year to enjoy the special tastings on offer.

Portes Ouvertes

These Open Door weekends are held throughout the year in all Bordeaux appellations, but they are very rarely publicised outside of the immediate area, and are worth seeking out. The ones in Pessac Léognan are always among the best. Not only do many big name châteaux run special tastings and exhibitions, but on Saturday night, a dinner is thrown in one of the châteaux (Château Pape Clement in 2007, Domaine de Chevalier in 2006, Rochemorin in 2005) where you can meet the winemakers and sample their finest bottles.
