The wines here underperformed for years but current owner Jean-Jacques de Bethmann, ably assisted by manager Laurent Lebrun, has invested heavily in turning them around, and it is now one of the few Bordeaux châteaux to have equally successful red and white wines. A good visit as well; the château has an attractively turreted building, and the vines cover just under 50ha of an estate that stretches over 220ha, so plenty of park land to explore. In the last few years, a ‘lost’ plot of high quality vineyard land, known as Bel Air, was rediscovered among the trees, and has been replanted to Cabernet Sauvignon vines that are now going into the main wine. Professor Denis Dubourdieu is consultant here. A visitor’s centre is planned.
