If you want to really understand why Pomerol is ‘Burgundy in Bordeaux’, you have to visit Château Rouget, where a genuine Burgundian family is making the wine. The Labruyère family still has a property on ‘The Other Side’ (Domaines Jacques Prieur in the Côte de Beaune), Rouget follows sustainable agriculture, and the vinification has some distinctly Burgundian touches – open punching down and natural malolactic fermentation. If you get the chance, ask them about the philosophical and practical differences between these two wine-making regions – really fascinating.

Useful information: Open Monday to Friday by appointment 09.00-12.00 and 14.00-17.00. English spoken.
