One of the oldest and largest properties in Pomerol, this dates back to the 17th century, and is one of the few estates in the appellation that look the part – a full château with sweeping drive lined by plane trees, large gardens with a lovely bamboo plantation and a large airy tasting room. The estate recently won a Best of Wine Tourism award for its architecture and gardens. Today run by Bruno de Lambert (it has been in the same family for over four centuries), the wines are only given six months in oak (along with a year in vats), to keep the fruit as fresh as possible. The entire estate covers 90ha, with 47.5ha under vine. The estate produces 10,000 bottles of Château de Sales and 5,000 cases of the second wine, Château Chantaloulette.
