Every appellation should open one of these. An épicerie-wine shop-bar-restaurant that opened in 2009, Comptoir de Genès has been consistently popular ever since, following a simple concept of selling only wines of the Castillon appellation (or rather, to be pedantic, the Castillon section of the Côtes de Bordeaux appellation). You can buy the wines to take out also. They hold regular theme evenings, such as ’Organic wines of Castillon’.

Useful information: Restaurant lunch menu: €14; evening modest à la carte. Closed Sunday and Monday. Menus: €14 Epicerie open Monday – Saturday 07.45-12.45 and 15.30-19.00; Sun 08.30-12.30. Café open Monday–Saturday non-stop 07.45-20.00; Sunday 08.30-15.00. The restaurant is closed from January to early March, but the bar and shop remain open.
