This is the principle grape variety here accounting for around 65% of the vineyard plantings. It thrives better on these soils which have a higher clay content than their neighbours on the left bank. Produces supple wines that develop earlier.
Often called Bouchet, it is a lighter and less intense version of Cabernet Sauvignon and gives the wines finesse.
This grape is added to the red blends, but has a less important role here. It can be difficult to ripen on these cooler, damper soils.
Used as a blending ingredient but sparingly.
Main grape for the dry white wines.
Used in white wine blends, both sweet and dry.
