Château Cantenac

A well-located château on the main road between Saint Emilion and Libourne, this is owned by Nicole Roskam-Brunot, who is also a key player in the tourism office in Saint Emilion. Perhaps because of this, there is a well-stocked boutique where you can buy a number of different wines, and a good tour that goes into excellent depth about the process of winemaking, and Saint Emilion itself. The property extends over 12ha and has a particularly good special bottling called Cuvée Madame. During the visit, the tasting can take the form of a comparison of different châteaux (they also have a Listrac-Médoc) or of different vintages.

Useful information: Open Monday to Friday 09.00 -12.00 and 14.00-17.00. Saturday, Sunday and public holidays are by appointment only (although there is often someone here even at very short notice). Groups of up to 40 people are welcome; bus parking is available. The visit costs €6, with a tasting of two wines.
