The estate itself dates back to 1714, and is good example of what can be achieved even on the lowly plains of Saint Emilion with the right approach. Owners Jonathan and Lynn Maltus have transformed Teyssier in just over ten years, constructing two state-of-the art wineries, a modern barrel-cellar and tripling the size of the vineyard. Further renovations to the cellars and winery took place during 2007/8. They also make the acclaimed (and far more expensive) La Dome, from a 3ha-plot next to Château Angélus, and a range of Australian wines bottled under the Colonial Wine Company label. You can join the Teyssier Wine Club, which gives access to special tastings, pre-release wines and seasonal offers.

Useful information: Free visit and tasting, Monday to Friday by appointment only. Tours in English and French. Groups welcome (up to 20).
