Possibly the most impressive driveway in the area, and a neighbour of d’Yquem, this highly regarded 1855-classified estate is jointly owned by the French Peugeot family (yes, the car manufacturer), wine director Xavier Planty and Stephan von Neipperg from Canon La Gaffelière in Saint Emilion. A progressive estate, that follows numerous sustainable winemaking practises, with handsome grounds, modern vinification rooms and gorgeous central rooms. There is a high number of Sauvignon vines planted here that helps give their Sauternes its customary lift, and they also produce an excellent dry white wine called G de Guiraud. In the summer months, they also organise walking tours of the vines, with an explanation of their environmental efforts, from insect hotels and biodiveristy programmes to a visit to their vine conservatory. A small boutique offers limited direct sales.
Useful information: Open seven days a week 09.00 - 12.00 and 14.00 - 17.00 by appointment if possible (groups welcome, 35 people maximum, always by appointment). €7 per person for tour and tasting. They are also happy to organise vertical tastings of three vintages (from four people, €18 per person), food and wine matching (from €39 per person, maximum 20 people), plus various other events and meals, both inside the chateau and in their extensive grounds.
