La Médocaine VTV (Velo Tout Vignes)

Held in the last week of May every year for more than a decade, this is the southern Médoc version of Pauillac’s Marathon through the vines – and far more civilised in my opinion, as you get to ride on bicycles rather than staggering through a 26-mile run (and there’s a walking option also). There are three different circuits available of differing lengths between 25 and 75km, all leaving from the town of Arsac and winding through vineyards over the 11 communes of the Médoc estuary.
Registration from €29.

Margaux Saveurs

Held in November each year, this is an open-doors weekend in Margaux where the wine tastings offer local bottles paired with a variety of regional food stuffs, and the whole village puts on events from special shop and châteaux openings to music and theatre. Flavour quizzes are held to identify flowers, chocolates and spices.
