Second growth Lascombes has been owned by American pension group Capital Colony since 2001, who bought it from British brewers Bass Charrington for around €70 million and invested heavily in modernising the winery and interior of the château, first installing Alain Reynaud, former president of the Union des Grand Crus as director, and more recently Dominique Befve. The result of their investment can be seen in the stunning cellars and barrel rooms, and in the vineyard there is an ongoing replanting programme. Quality has improved enormously in recent years and it makes a great visit, as the château is very beautiful, with lovely gravel courtyards and well appointed gardens.
Useful information: Daily from 09.30-17.00, by appointment only. Free up to 10 people. Groups €5 per person including a tasting of the main wine. English spoken. The visit lasts one hour, and there’s a small boutique. Closed over Christmas and May 1.
