Owner Philippe Raoux is responsible for two of the most striking properties, and best visits, in the southern Médoc, handily within five minutes of each other, the innovative La Winery (see ‘Wine attractions’) and Château d’Arsac. This is the site credited with the first ever change of appellation for vines - after heavy campaigning, Raoux managed to convince the powers-that-be to move his vines from AC Haut-Médoc to the infinitely more valuable AC Margaux. He has also surrounded his classical 18th century château with modern art installations and sculptures that include a huge iron girder laid casually against the outside of the property.

Useful information: Open Monday to Friday 08.00-12.00 and 13.00-17.00 by appointment only. At the weekend minimum number of participants is 10 people. Price €6 includes the art collection, cellars and a tasting of two wines.
