Jean-Marc Burgaud

Address: Le Haut Morgon, 69910 Villié-Morgon

Based in the hamlet of Morgon, 2km by D68, Jean-Marc is an energetic and committed grower with an enviable19ha of vineyards, 13ha of which are in Côte de Py and Les Charmes, the two finest sites of the Morgon appellation, lying on slopes above the hamlet. The wines are hand-made creations crafted with flair and patience, which express themselves in their own time. Naturally they have a spell in oak in order to release their cherry-like aromas and round out the tannins in what are often the longest-lived wines in the Beaujolais. A comparison of his Côte de Py in successive vintages is riveting: the 2005 is a great year of intense flavours, the 2006 is all cherry scents and silky elegance, the new 2008 a fine result, somewhere between 2005 and 2006. Les Charmes is a more supple wine of great finesse made for gastronomy. Jean-Marc also makes ample fruit-driven Régnié and stylish Beaujolais Villages from vines in Lantignié.
