Despite increasing competition from a younger generation of impressive Pouilly Fuissé growers, Jean-Jacques Vincent is still the leader of this prestigious appellation. He has one crucial advantage: his numerous parcels of vines are spread evenly across a 30ha estate renowned for the richness, diversity and staying power of its privileged sites. That inheritance is sustained by Jean-Jacques and his son, Antoine, in their proven ability to blend the wines from these sites to create a Pouilly Fuissé Vieilles Vignes of unsurpassed elegance and long life: be aware, though, that this great wine needs several years, even a decade, to show its class fully, a leisurely characteristic that can sometimes fox younger tasters looking for instant gratification. The château also produces good but quite wooded and expensive St-Véran and a powerful rich Pouilly Fuissé Cuvée Les Brûlés, which matures relatively quickly.
Useful information: Tastings and sales Monday-Friday 10.00-12.00 and 14.00-16.00; weekends only by appointment. Good English spoken.
