Josette and Jean-Noël Challands have a traditional approach in their vineyard. No chemical herbicides are used and the vines, most of them over 50 years old, are cultivated by hand. Under the Chazelles label, their Mâcon Viré is fresh, minerally, with great purity of Chardonnay fruit (no wood). The Sainte Barbe wines are matured in oak casks for ten months and have impressive tension and structure on the palate. Josette, a kindly lady, can provide lunches at the kitchen table for up to eight people by arrangement after a tasting. There’s a pretty garden of splendid fruit trees.
