Jean-Pierre Fleury is the pioneer of biodynamic winegrowing in the Aube, having treated his vineyards without chemicals or herbicides since as early as 1989. Today working with his dedicated son Jean-Sébastien, Jean-Pierre has an estate of 25ha, the health of his soils and vines being widely admired and emulated in the wine community. What's more, his Champagnes, which are fermented in oak, keep a precision and floral expression that naturally balance the rich vinous flavours that are shaped by the local limestone marls of the terroir. Fleury's range of six cuvées have a shared weight and vinosity that makes them very suitable for food, from the subtly coloured rosé suffused with Pinot Noir flavours to the complex vintage dated Cuvée Tradition, which has 20% of the approved but rarely used Pinot Blanc in the blend. The Fleury Champagne that consistently scores high marks is his Fleur de l'Europe that with the great majority of Pinot Noir in the blend keeps a finesse and poise that is its own.
