Grower Richard Cheurlin is Veuve Clicquot's man-on-the-spot, manning their observation post over the maturing vines and monitoring the local press-house. But Richard is also an outstanding champagne producer in his own right. Of his half dozen nicely varied cuvées, there is one for every circumstance and mood. And he is a guy close to one's heart, a gourmand who loves good food, making some delicious suggestions of what to eat with each of his champagnes. Richard's greatest wine is the vintage Cuvée Jeanne, made in memory of his grandmother, the fermentation in oak handled in as masterly a way as the rest of the non-wooded range.
