This young winemaker, originally from Bastia, studied law in Paris at the Sorbonne before deciding that his passion for wine was too strong to ignore. Thanks to a number of Patrimonio winemakers, particularly Henri Orenga de Gaffory, who provided him with 5ha of vines, and Annette Leccia, who has allowed him the use of her wine cellar, he has started to attract the attention of wine critics in France and abroad. His 2007 100% Niellucciu, which is made from old vines (45 years of age), is smooth and round, but also shows some of the inherent ‘oakiness’ sometimes exhibited by this grape. His 100% Vermentinu is round and fresh, with nice lemon and floral notes, but it might need a touch more acidity. Overall, these are good wines, and Mariotti Bindi is a winemaker to watch. While here, you can also taste the Domaine Leccia wine of Annette Leccia, who runs the family domaine now that her brother Yves has moved next door to create his own vineyard, the Domaine d’E Croce.
Useful information: Tasting room open Monday – Saturday 09.00-12.00 and 15.00-18.00.
