Romuald Fassenet is one of the chefs who, along with Jean-Paul Jeunet and Thierry Moine (La Balance), regularly cooks for the big Jura wine events to which I am sometimes invited. So, I’ve eaten his food several times, though only once at his smart restaurant near Dôle, which he opened with his wife in 2007 having already gained a Michelin star elsewhere - now he has one here too. Although a little drive north of the wine area, this is well worth a visit, with excellently prepared food served in lovely surroundings in this refurbished classical château. Lobster is a particular speciality here, though there is much else to recommend too. As you would expect there is a good list of fairly traditional Jura wines selected by Romuald’s wife Catherine, the daughter of a Château-Chalon vigneron. The seven modern and quite luxurious hotel bedrooms mean you don’t have to drive anywhere after dinner.
