Sumptuous Swiss-owned Relais & Châteaux hotel offering fine dining too in a beautifully converted hunting lodge in the very quiet village of Port Lesnay about 12km north of Arbois. The one-star Michelin restaurant offers food with a Jurassien feel to it and excellent attention to detail. Prices on the wines in particular are somewhat high but the list from Jura is improving with the arrival of experienced local sommelier Christophe Menozzi; make sure you ask for help from his team or even choose the option where a different glass is offered with each course. The main dining room, is extremely light and airy and a further one in summer looks out to the lovely park, where you should take a stroll after your meal. Down the road is their delightful Bistrot which offers a much simpler, well-cooked lower-priced menu in a casual atmosphere with bright, red and white checked tablecloths. The hotel is all that one would expect at the high price, and the staff are keen to share their knowledge of the local area and its vineyards - the modest Hotel Edgar is walking distance.

Useful information: Menus (main restaurant): from €35 (lunch) - €110 (without wine). Closed Monday and Tuesday lunchtimes. Bistrot menu: €28. Bistrot closed Wednesday and Thursday and from mid October to second week November - it has its own website www.bistrotdeportlesney.com. Check for winter closures of the main restaurant/hotel. Rooms: from €200.
