Originally a coaching inn in the 18th century, this small Logis de France hotel in a village off the main road, below Château Chalon has seven decent, modest rooms (all with Wi-Fi) renovated by the current owners who took over in 2005. Rooms are available for booking only to those wanting to eat in the restaurant which is no hardship as owner-chef Marc Tupin is building a quiet reputation for his cooking. The wood-panelled restaurant is a little dark, but on summer evenings you can eat outside on the large gravel terrace. Seasonal menus reflect the local cuisine (heavy in winter) and work well with the wines offered on the extensive local wine list, which has an especially good selection of Vins Jaunes.
Useful information: Rooms: €65-€75; breakfast: €10. Menus: €18 (lunch); €23-€69 (evenings). Half board terms available. Closed all day Monday and Tuesday (open evenings in mid-summer). Closed November.
