The Labet family is amongst the most welcoming I know in the Jura and produce an exemplary range of terroir-specific Chardonnays. Alain and Josie retired in 2012 and their three children now run the estate with Julien and Charlene sharing the winemaking and Romain mainly working in the vineyards. Julien was moonlighting making his own 'natural' wines (mainly sulphur-free) but these are now being incorporated into the domain as a separate range. The vineyards are in conversion to organic growing, and were previously farmed with very few chemicals. Nearly all the whites are produced in a non-oxidative ‘floral’ style with extremely skilled use of oak fermentation and maturation. However, traditional oxidative whites and Vin Jaune are good too and there is a delicious 'Paille Perdu' sweet wine from grapes dried on straw but not an official Vin de Paille. This visit is a must for lovers of fine white wines.
