This leading Cabardès estate, which accounts for a significant amount of the area's production, is based at a splendid aristocratic 17th century château, which has recently been sumptuously renovated converting half of it into a luxury conference venue as well as luxury suites and apartments. They make a wide range of mostly red AC blends and white Vin de Pays varietal wines. Amongst these is a benchmark, barrel-fermented Chardonnay, a few good rosés and their top red called L’Esprit made from Syrah, Cabernet and/or Merlot, which develops real complexity after five years ageing and makes a serious quality statement. The Lorgeril family owns two other properties in the Cabardès area, Château La Bastide and Château de Caunettes, plus other interests and partnerships across the Languedoc-Roussillon, the latest one called Mas des Montagnes with two promising reds sourced from the northern Roussillon. Back in Pennautier, there’s also a campsite and gîte complex close to the château's grounds, plus a restaurant-wine shop (see 'Places to eat').
Useful information: You can taste the whole Lorgeril range in the shop next to their restaurant (see 'Places to Eat'). If you want to visit the château itself (highly recommended) you’ll need to make an appointment.
