Overhauled and re-equipped by the mighty AXA Millésimes insurance and property investment group, who has merged and replanted two old vineyards covering 90ha in total overseen by Cédric Loiseau, the winery and vineyard manager. Their sumptuous Languedoc red blends, Les Coteaux and Sainte-Hélène, are based on Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and old vine Carignan. The first vintages were perhaps a touch Bordeaux in style in terms of oak maturation, but they’ve decreased the amount of new wood used for subsequent vintages. They also make a variety of attractive varietal wines and a rosé. Not easy to find so best approached by the D13e5 Pézenas road into the village of Caux, then take a left following the signs down a quite rough track. But worth it when you do, the Mas itself combines time-worn 17th buildings with an unusual yet understated 19th Century château.
