This scattered assortment of old-vine plots - hence the name - is transformed into a very nice range of wines by affable owners, English farmer Hugo Stewart and Australian winemaker Paul Old, a former professional dancer, who have vineyards in Corbières and near Maury. The latest purchase included some very old Grenache Gris found between Mas las Frédas and Maury village, which serves to boost their white wines. They follow many biodynamic principles and work the vines and their environment very much by hand. The cellar is located in Peyriac-de-Mer in the coastal Corbières by the sea. A few recommended wines to try include: Cuvée 51 Corbières, L'Extreme vin de pays des Côtes Catalanes, Mire la Mer, a new Mourvèdre rosé and the above mentioned barrel-fermented Grenache Gris white.

They also rent out a three-bedroom holiday house located in Paziols - email for details.

Useful information: Visits by appointment only, although Paul does live above the cellar for much of the year. You can also arrange a visit via their UK telephone number +44 1725 511119.
