Domaine Gauby

Address: La Muntada, 66600 Calce
Tel: 04 68 64 35 19  Fax: 04 68 64 41 77
Geo-coordinates:  Latitude: 42:45:31N (42.75856)    Longitude: 2:45:13E (2.75361)

The handsome forlorn village of Calce is home to biodynamically famous (actually, just plain famous) Domaine Gauby, where Gérard and now son Lionel are committed to totally natural vine growing and winemaking sometimes a cliché but in their case it seems genuine: for example, at harvest time they even collect up any stray insects from the cellar and put them back in the vineyard! Their website’s home page says it all really: “Grands Crus du Roussillon” - or in true Gauby style “North Catalonia” – although they remain friendly down-to-earth people despite their success. Their Muntada Côtes du Roussillon Villages red is very special (and expensive) and their white wines show a kind of intense minerality you don’t often find in the region. To find the estate, head out of Calce towards Baixas ignoring the official Roussillon wine route sign (which doesn’t point to Domaine Gauby!); keep going and follow the arrow off to the right down a track for 1.5km.
