Considering it’s located on the outskirts of Perpignan not far from the motorway, this large 50ha estate is quite difficult to find and, once you get there, it feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere. (It’s signposted off the Thuir road between the two N9 turnoffs - Gerona, then Perpignan centre or vice versa – before/after the prison; or take the back road from Perpignan to Canohès). One of the leading lights in the Perpignan area, the vineyards are run by Suzie and her son Jérôme Sarda-Malet aided by their winemaker Vincent Bascou. Their range is impressive across the board: personal highlights include the Terroir Mailloles red, made from selected low-yielding Syrah and Mourvèdre; and their enigmatically labelled L'Insouciant, a powerful pure Grenache actually classified as a table wine, because it doesn't comply with AC rules.
