Yorkshireman Jonathan Hesford and his New Zealander wife Rachel (Treloar is her maiden name) created this promising estate in 2006. Having narrowly escaped the tragic 9/11 disaster, the family left for New Zealand where Jonathan studied viticulture and winemaking then worked for a leading winery; a few years later they left for the Roussillon to pursue their dream. They now have 12ha in four different sites around Trouillas. Wines include the citrus-tinged yet creamy One Block Dry White (mostly Muscat à Petits Grains), spicy solid One Block Red (mostly Grenache), Three Peaks Côtes du Roussillon (named after the view from the vineyard), a Grenache-Mourvèdre-Syrah blend. New cuvées also worth tasting are Motus, a dense oak-aged Mourvèdre; a barrel-fermented white La Terre Promise and top red Tahi (Maori for ‘one’). They’ve now launched an ‘Own Vine Club’ scheme and renovated the 2-bedroom Cellarmaster's House next door for short or long-term stays.
Useful information: Lunches, vineyard tours and tasting events available (€10-€14 reserved in advance); they can also organise airport transfers. Open for tastings and sales 10.00-19.00 Tuesdays, Thursdays and on Saturday mornings plus Sundays in July and August. Call or email to visit at another time or to arrange a guided tour.
