Jim has been a wine writer since 1988 following a number of enjoyable years teaching English in south London. Jim is editor of Circle Update, the newsletter of the Circle of Wine Writers and a contributing editor to Wine Business Insider. He has written for Decanter and many other specialist wine magazines. His first book Appreciating Fine Wines was published by Quintet Books in 1996 and he was the general editor for Great Wine Tours of the World published by New Holland in 2002. He contributes to the Loire section of Hugh Johnson's Pocket Wine Book. Jim’s award winning website looks at wine investment scams as well as some other wine related scams.
In 1987 he and a number of friends bought a house in the Cher Valley in eastern Touraine. This confirmed his growing enthusiasm for the diverse and fascinating wines of the Loire Valley. He is the Loire’s regional chair for the Decanter World Wine Awards. In August 2008 he launched jimsloire.blogspot.com covering Loire wines in preparation for a more ambitious site to be launched later that is intended to include all the Loire regions and a number of its producers. Jim’s Loire won the 2009 Wine Bloggers Trophy (journalists category) at this year’s Salon des Vins de Loire.
