Unlike the area between Saumur and Blois, the wine region of Anjou is not over-endowed with good hotels. There are some to the north of Angers such as the Château de Noirieux in Briollay (see below) and Château des Briottières (www.briottieres.com) in Champigné around 30km away. However, as the main Anjou vineyard areas are to the south of Angers and the Loire, if you want to limit travelling time, Angers is the best option as a base with a number of hotels. There are, however, a growing number of chambres d’hôtes in the wine region - one recommended by several people, but not yet visited is La Rousselière, just west of Savennières (www.anjou-et-loire.com/Rousseliere).
