Victor Lebreton, now forty-something, was a key player in revolutionising winemaking in Anjou. Depending on the vintage, he makes as many as five different cuvées of toothsome barrel-aged Coteaux de l’Aubance, including Les Trois Schistes, and the old-vines bottling Les Tertereaux. His Anjou Villages-Brissac reds have historically been over-extracted blockbusters. Lebreton recently assured me, however, that he’s now focusing on elegance- now there’s something to look forward to.
