As producers and négociants Jean-Ernest and Yves Sauvion were long  promoters of and fighters for high quality Muscadet. During the 1980s and 1990s they insisted that for the designation sur lie to mean anything, the wines had to be bottled where they were made and not transported elsewhere for bottling. The Sauvion family bought Château du Cléray, which has impressive, old vaulted cellars, in 1935 - there are 30ha of vines planted. They sold to Grands Chais de France in November 2007. Yves’ son, Pierre, continues as winemaker. The top wines are Château du Cléray, especially the Cuvée de Garde, and Cardinal Richard.
