Places to stay

Although Pouilly and Sancerre are both the two most topographically attractive vineyards of the Loire as well as being the most accessible to Paris, there is a distinct shortage of good hotels here. The only acceptable hotel in Sancerre is the functional Hotel Panoramic (02 48 54 22 44 or, which has very high charges for internet access . However, in summer 2008 in the village of Chavignol Jean-Marc Bourgeois opened a fine hotel behind his very fine restaurant – La Côte des Monts Damnés (see ‘Places to Eat’). Fortunately there are some good bed & breakfast options in the area.
