I have great admiration for this remarkable and dynamic family. For more than years Jean-Marie Bourgeois has played a huge role in making them Sancerre’s largest producers. They now have 70ha of vines plus an extensive négociant business producing around one million bottles a year. Despite their size they have been able to maintain their high quality, which runs right through the range from an IGP Sauvignon Blanc Le Petit Bourgeois, through to MD (from Les Monts Damnés), La Bourgeoise, Le Jadis and Vin d’Antan Sancerres. Among the whites, the refined and minerally MD is a particular favourite of mine, especially with some bottle age. Their neat tasting room, complete with soil samples and maps, is unusual in being open through lunchtime and on Sundays. See also 'Places to Eat'.

Useful information: Tasting room and shop open every day except 25 Dec and 1 Jan 09.30-18.30. Groups may tour the modern cellars by appointment. English spoken.
