Eastern Touraine is an important tourist destination and during the summer months there are an enormous number of fêtes and various events of all sizes and forms.
‘La Culture du Vin en Val de Loire’ is an open air wine fair held in Tours over a weekend in mid-May. More than 100 winemakers representing nearly seventy appellations from Muscadet to Sancerre set up stands along the Boulevard de Heurteloup, the Jardin de la Prefecture and the Place de la Gare.

This annual wine fair is held in Vouvray in mid-August in the Caves de la Bonne Dame. It is a great opportunity to taste wines from many Vouvray producers. There are also some food stalls. There is also a smaller fair held at the end of March where you can taste the wines from the new vintage.

Held in mid-August, the wine fair takes place on the grounds of the château and gives a good opportunity to visit the castle and taste the appellation’s wines on the same day. Over the Easter weekend the Amboise producers also hold a wine fair in a cave under the château.
This festival, held on the first weekend in June, celebrates cheese in particular goats’ cheeses. The centerpiece of the foire is competition to find the best goats’ cheeses with separate categories for the many different forms produced in the Loire Valley. The best is awarded Le Chèvre d'Or. As well as cheese stalls there are also stands offering charcuterie, honey and wine.
This long-established gastronomic festival is held in Romorantin-Lanthenay on the last weekend of October. The 2011 edition is on 9 and 30 October. There is a vast range of exhibitors including local producers and many demonstrations. If you are intending to stay in Romorantin-Lanthenay you will have to book early, especially if you want to stay or eat at the Grand Hotel du Lion d’Or.

The next edition of this blues festival will be held on 11 - 14 August 2011. The annual festival was started by Big Joe Turner, who lived in this pretty village in the valley of the Indrois, a tributary of the Indre. Turner died at the end of January 2008 but the festival lives on.
