Catherine and Didier are consistently amongst Vouvray’s top producers. They started in 1985 and rapidly established their reputation. They now have 22ha of vines and Céline, one of their daughters, has now joined them. The Champalou’s wines are little softer than many other Vouvrays. Weather permitting they make a sec tendre, Les Fondraux (demi-sec) and a moelleux –La Moelleuse, and in exceptional years there is Cuvée CC. They also make the excellent dry and minerally Le Portail – barrel fermented and aged for 12 months. First made in 1998 it comes from the vines around their house and winery. A sparkling Vouvray completes the range.
