After completing his wine studies, which included a stage with Philippe Alliet in Chinon, Vincent joined his father Alain to run the family vineyard in 1998. The majority of the domaine is planted with Sauvignon Blanc and Vincent Ricard shows what can be done with this variety in the Cher Valley. Anyone tired of over-priced Pouilly-Fumé or Sancerre should try Vincent’s range of Sauvignon Blancs. Le Petiot starts the range. With 20% oak aged, it is already richer and more complex than many Touraine Sauvignons. Next comes the barrel fermented Les Trois Chênes from old vines and then the oddly named ? (question mark!) from vines over 70 years old and fermented and aged in barriques for 12 months. Vincent also produces a small amount of red in particular Le Vilain Petit Rouge, whose first vintage was refused the right to use the Touraine appellation – hence the name ‘the little red villain’. The domaine is about 2km east of Thesée just off the D178.
