In the village of Balzac home of the sculptor, Alexander Calder, this is a marvellously atmospheric restaurant, whose quality fully justifies its Michelin star. The wonderfully restored auberge is run by chefs Xavier Aubrun and Thierry Jimenez. One of the dining rooms is in the old part with another in a modern extension. Very good wine list. A lunch here can always be combined with a visit to the Balzac museum in the Château de Saché.

Useful information: Menus: €35-€85. Closed Sunday evening, all Monday and Tuesday lunchtime. Closed 30 May-8 June, 29 August-7 September, 14-23 November, 2-18 January.
