François Dutheil de la Rochère had held on to his old Mourvèdre while others were grubbing up and planting high yielding varieties: his traditionalism paid off. When François died young a few years ago, his widow, Françoise kept the estate going and now son Jean Baptiste is the fifth generation to run the family vineyards. A quiet and serious family who offer a genuine welcome at their château in south eastern Bandol, close to the old stone village of Evenos, which is worth a visit. They also offer a gîte and chambre d'hôte. Very classic reds, which combine “terroir” qualities with more modern wine making.
