Perched right on the foothills of the eastern Maures Mountains, these vineyards at 100m have a magnificent view over the river plain of the Argens, the town of Fréjus and the sea. Founded in 1902, some of the vines are very old indeed and provide good character to the red wines. The Blanc de Blancs and Muscat Sec betray the Swiss/German background of the current owners and are delightfully fragrant. The rosés too are more fruity and refreshing, while the reds range from everyday drinking to more serious wines for keeping. When Ilse and Christophe Rieder first took on the estate in 1980 they greeted clients at the cellar door – now the immaculate cellar has been joined by tasting rooms and reception hall and there are gîtes available for hire. Spring and summer are the best times to visit this estate – by the autumn the wines are often sold out
Useful information: Wines available to taste at the cellar shop. English and German is spoken.
