This too is one of the best traditional domaines and as an added incentive you can even stay here at their chambres d'hôtes (see 'Places to stay'), which guarantees good access for tasting as the bedrooms are above the tasting cellar in the main street in Ampuis. Gilles produces two Côte Rôties. The main one is good – the Côte Rôtie du Plessy, mainly from the Côte Blonde and his top cuvée – the Côte Brune is a deep and concentrated wine but only available in tiny quantities. He also makes a good Condrieu and both white and red Saint Joseph. This is a domaine that is well geared up for visitors and has a tasting cellar in the main street which is open without appointment. Gilles and his wife, Marie Alice, have now been joined by their son Julien who speaks good English.
Useful information: No appointment necessary but it may be worth telephoning to ensure they are open. Small groups welcome. Themed visits available - details on the website. English spoken if Julien is present.
