Domaine Jean-Louis Chave is the best producer of Hermitage, but unfortunately is so renowned that they accept no visitors and the wine has been on allocation for years with no new clients accepted since the mid-1990s. The only chance of a visit is if you are a regular purchaser of his wines from one of his importers who might be able to make the appointment for you well ahead of your trip. Failing this the wine shop Compagnie de l’Hermitage (see below) often has a few bottles available. The same applies to one of the other great producers in this part of the Rhône, August Clape of Cornas. The range of wine producers we’ve selected includes large and small, most require advance appointments to visit. Just click on each link for a description and full contact details.
