Perched high above the huge Lac de Bourget off the road to the Tunnel du Chat this unassuming chalet-like building houses a resolutely modern, classy restaurant that gained a Michelin star in 2009. The dining room has panoramic windows and the décor is white to allow maximum light; there is a large terrace for summer dining. The menus change frequently focussing on seasonal fare with a local bias. Although the cooking and table settings are modern, even stark, the service is super-friendly and the food really tasty. The wine list has a superb selection of Savoie wines, including older vintages of Marestel Roussette de Savoie from Dupasquier, Mondeuse from both Domaine St-Germain and Domaine Prieuré St-Christophe (Michel Grisard). There are unusual and modestly priced Savoie wines available too including by the glass. If you want to stay, the four bedrooms with a view are also ultra-modern and comfortable for a couple of nights, with an excellent breakfast as you would expect.
Useful information: Menus: €22 (weekday lunch)-€60. Rooms €100-€120; breakfast €13. Restaurant closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays all year; hotel also closed Tuesday and Wednesdays except in summer months. Closed for a month from mid-October.
