Named by its owners Philippe (the chef) and his wife Fanny, after a spicy/sweet peppercorn from New Guinea - also known as ‘graine de Paradis’ (seed of paradise) - this small restaurant is in the heart of Chambéry’s old town. It has just the right balance between casual bistrot and formal gastronomy with a pleasant welcome whether at lunchtime or in the evening. The menu is kept short and geared to seasonal produce with a fixed price policy for each course. The wine list is also short with just a few Savoie wines, including Michel Grisard (Domaine Prieuré de St-Christophe) Mondeuse. The wines by the glass are well chosen. This is deservedly popular, so it is essential to book.
Useful information: Menu: €29; also fixed price first course (€8.50), main course (€16) and dessert/cheese (€7). Closed all day Sunday and Monday, plus Tuesday evenings.
