Welsh chef Siôn Evans and his Savoie-born wife Delphine opened at the Panoramic in December 2010 having moved from their tiny restaurant La Fresque, the other side of Chambéry, that they had run since 2004. Siôn trained with London's Nico Ladenis, and has travelled widely, giving him many influences. Bringing a faitfhul clientele wiht them, they have dubbed their new restaurant, a 'bistronomique' by which they seem to mean simply somewhere that you can eat really well, but in relaxed surroundings and leaving as the chef wants, with a smile on your face. The restaurant is in a little chalet perched above the vineyards of Monterminod, above the city of Chambéry and you can enjoy a lovely mountain view over to Mont Granier on the big terrace for summer. Inside, the tables are on two levels with contemporary, but unfussy place settings in quite traditional surroundings. The food is simply just right, fresh ingredients and lovely flavours, with a flexibly priced menu. If you don't feel like a 'real' dessert, how about ice cream or sorbet at just €2 per scoop? The wines are well chosen, including a small selection from good Savoie growers, that they have promised to increase.

Useful information: Menus €15 (weekday lunch out of holiday season)-€33 or €45. Fixed prices per course on the €33 flexible menu. Closed Sunday evenings, Mondays and lunchtime Tuesday. Closed for around 10 days in mid May and late September.
