Next door to the Jacquins are two more brothers, Noël and Pascal Barlet and their children, running a sizeable 24ha estate growing all the main varieties. A very sound and consistent level of quality runs through the range and I often prefer their Roussette de Savoie to their cru Marestel. Although it is difficult to make a Mondeuse here to rival those in the Combe de Savoie, this is one of the better ones. Recently they have been experimenting with oak ageing their Mondeuse and produce a decent oaked cuvée labelled Compostelle in honour of the fact that the pilgrims en route from Geneva to Santiago di Compostella in Spain traditionally passed through the village of Jongieux. The tasting cellar is below the old house parts of which date back to the 15th century. Look on the website for a beautiful moving panorama photograph of the Marestel slope and surroundings.
