Poggio Alloro is a wonderful agriturismo just 5 km outside San Gimignano with the possibility of eating al fresco. The main attraction here, other than the Fioroni family’s warm welcome and great hospitality, is that almost everything you eat is produced on the farm. Their organic farm supplies meat, including a selected Chianina breed of cows (used for the real bistecca Fiorentina), chickens, rabbit and pork, in addition to vegetables and salads. From home made produce including the tagliatelle and lasagna, there is usually a plentiful set menu with a few variations providing excellent value. All is matched with their own wines including Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Chianti Colli Senesi and to finish with Vin Santo and Grappa ... and you know that if necessary you can always book a room!
